MEET VELINDA

I am a proud and lifelong resident of Midland, Texas, where I have deep roots and strong ties to my community. I’ve been blessed to share my life with my husband, Robert Castillo, for the past 19 years. Together, we’ve built a beautiful blended family that includes two children and two stepchildren. Watching my family grow has been one of my greatest joys—one of my daughters has followed in my footsteps and become a nurse, and the other is on her way to earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. I recently entered the beautiful chapter of grandparenthood with the birth of my first grandson, Andres, who is 9 months old. He has quickly become the light of my life and brings me endless joy.

Family has always been a central part of who I am. I’m one of three siblings, and we remain incredibly close. Our bond has only grown stronger over the years, especially after the heartbreaking loss of our brother and both of our parents. Their love and legacy continue to inspire me every day, reminding me of the importance of compassion, resilience, and connection.

My journey into nursing was born out of a genuine desire to care for others. I have always believed in the power of empathy and healing, and I am truly passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the honor of working in a wide range of specialties, including Oncology, IMCU, Telemetry, ICU/CCU, and I was proud to serve on the frontlines during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of these roles has deepened my understanding of patient care and strengthened my dedication to the nursing profession.

I approach my work with compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose. Whether I’m supporting patients and families through difficult diagnoses or celebrating victories in recovery, I am committed to being a steady, caring presence. Nursing is more than a job to me—it’s a calling, and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to serve.
